Greatest "I found a car" story you have
I guess my favorite car find story would be of my Duster that I picked up a few years ago.
I had been on the search for a cheap mopar project and preferably a duster for a few months. I search all over and didnt have any luck.
one day my dads cousin who had a duster and a dart sport was telling me that he worked with some kid that always talked about having a couple of dusters and that he would sell him one.
So I said to him "if your not going to buy it do you mind getting me the kids info so I can look into it"....he said he didnt know how to contact the kid but he vaguely remembered the road he lived on......which turned out to be about 2 miles from where I was living at the time. so me and my dad hopped in my truck and drove down the road and drove past this house we thought it might be and in the back yard behind the garage I spotted a duster so i knew that had to be it.
so we stopped and knocked on the door and the kid came to the door and I said "hey , are you looking to sell that duster" ....he kind of looked around and kicked dirt and hesitated at first and then says "yeah.....I would sell it" . But before we go and look at it he opened his garage to show me his other duster which was a 73 I believe and was rotted beyond believe and he says "this one is my baby" .....so I immediatly was thinking "crap if this is his "baby" I don't even want to know what the one he doesnt want looks like" lol.
so we walked out back and checked the duster out and it was really really solid other than having a bit of rust in the lower quarters and trunk extensions and tail panel.
so we talked price for awhile and came up with $800.00, he then said he never got the title from the last owner but it was a good family friend and wouldnt be a problem. I said " how about I take the care and give you $500.00 now and you write me up a bill of sale and when you get the title in a couple days ill give you the other $300" we shook hands and the deal was set in stone.
well a few days went by and I didnt hear from him yet. so I call and he says he still has to get in touch with him, so a week goes by and I call again...no and his mom answers and says the kids not home, another week goes by and I call again and his mom answers and says to stop calling, another week went by and the phone jsut rings. by that time I was fed up and took it into my own hands.
I contacted a local sheriff who just so happened to be a Mopar fan and he told me of a forum to fill out that not much of the public is aware of. so I went and filled out the forum, paid $15 and 10 minutes later the car was free and clear in my name and legally. AND since the kid never held up on his end of the deal...I saved an extra $300 too lol.
sorry if my story is boring guys....but its what I got.
