The ratchet type will have a post on the lid and body to mount it. the spring type will have a hole in the lid and body where a hook attaches.

Thanks cudamark, I went out and looked and it does have a post/bracket on both the lid and the body for mounting.
If it matters, it would be on the right side of the trunk.
