All mopar parts drag car, give me some feedback.
I'm building up my 71 valiant drag car. Its just a weekend for fun project. Low budget. Well I was talking to my good buddy who happens to be 73 years old. He is an old drag racer with a whole barn full of trophy's. He raced a 66 dodge 1/2 ton pickup. He was telling me about the motor, he took a 413 and bored it to 426. Balanced it used the same grind cam that cam in a 440 six pack. Well basically he used parts that all came in stock mopars. By the way he ran a consistent 13.00 with a 3.23 gear daily driven truck.
I have a rebuilt 360 short block I was thinking of trying the same thing. I know it would be alot slower than using aftermarket. But it would be fun to see how fast you could get it. I was thinking 340 grind cam. Stock 4 barrel 360 intake, stock 318 manifolds with dual exhaust( I cant aford those high dollar hi-po 340 manifolds). I have a 8 3/4 rear end with factory 3:91 gears and sure-grip. I already bought a tci breakaway converter, but its only 2500 stall and I think they made factory high stall converters close to that. I have striped everything I could out of the car and truthfully from pushing it around it feels really light.
So I wondering what yall think of my idea. Good, bad or really bad. Give me some idea's.
