Whats everyone using for a drive shaft? I just put in a 440 and 727 in my duster and called up a shop that I have used before and told me $300 for shortening, balancing, yoke and U-joints. Now I dont have a drive shaft but figured I would get one out of a 70's truck or van with a BB and bring it to them. I also see inland empire, and dennys and hear good things and they are almost $400. Whats everyone doing for this kind of swap? The car is going to be Street/strip only about 500hp.

I used inland empire driveline service.gave them the measurements using their online chart.arrived assembled painted and ready to install. Not cheap but I'm quite happy with the quality.

I am not running a big block, but I ordered my driveshaft through fastshafts. It ran me $200 shipped for a 340/A-833 4 speed setup. I would check out there site to see if they have a setup for a BB setup or just give them a shout with your specs. Hope this helps.

you could buy a used one if you dont want to buy new, get your measurement and i have several drive shafts here, I just might have one the correct lenght. drop me a PM with lenght

Whilst we're on the topic, my 71 dart still has its wimpy little 7 1/4 rear end that came with the original /6. If I find (or have made) a shaft to connect this little rear end to my 440/727, will I have to start over with a new driveshaft when I put a real rear under the car? I guess put differently, will the same driveshaft work for a 440/727/7.25 and a 440/727/8.75?

Wow! Here it is $55 to cut and $55 to balance. $300 will get me a brand new driveshaft!
BTW,
My Cuda has a driveshaft 45 3/4 inches from center of the u-joint caps. Its a 400/727/suregrip
