just saw in on History channel Top Gear...Chevy 4X4 stepside won with 220,000 miles on it. Old Ford F250 4X4 broke a U-joint or a deiveshaft, couldnt tell. Newset truck was a Dodge Ram 4X4. Looked the meanest, but developed some engine trouble. Toyota V6 was support truck and seemed to take everything in stride. Probably a lot lighter and better HP/weight ratio. They all got beat up (they ganged up on the Dodge as it was the straightest in the bunch) but the Chevy outlasted the other 2 US trucks. Wonder what happened to the Dodge? Looks like he overheated it as steam or smoke was coming out the grill and it was very slow cranking..threw a belt or is it serpentine? Kids enjoyed it, lots of nice Alaska scenery shots. My oldest is now a Top Gear fan....

Rut said somewhere, can't remember where he said it though, that the truck was losing oil pressure and while he wanted to slow it down to keep it going the producers told him to keep going as it would make it more exciting when it died. So probably threw a rod or something. It might have been on the ISSCA forum that we are both members of although I didn't know it at the time. :D Rut's probably my favorite guy there because he likes what I like in cars, GM B bodies from the 90s, and Dodge muscle cars.

Seriously????? Hell, my old 90 Dakota has 239,000 on the clock with the original clutch and exhaust,....the old gal has NEVER left me,...EVER,...always started and ran in the middle of the night when it was 6 friggin degrees for fire calls,( read high revs, cold motor,....we gotta go,...now),...

In real life (without a script or grandstanding for a camera), I've found that generally, most people make they're own vehicle problems, by either not opening the hood once or twice a year,...or by messin with things they don't know enough about.

say what u want i have always had dodge tks.and i have put them threw there pace.i never had any major problems just regular mant.
rut is a cool guy.he makes the show.

What gen Ram was it? Magnums will loose oil pressure in a hurry when the pickup tube falls out into the sump. Never had it happen on my 2001 with 167k on it, but I've had a few other issues. I own my Ram because I like it, not for brand loyalty or reliability.

I feel like everyone gets so twisted over these things. You guys do know that it really proves nothing? Maybe the chevy had excellent service history while the others were neglected? who the hell knows. Maybe the producers had something to do with it? once again who knows.

But in the end you shouldn't be watching this to find out what the greatest truck is, you should be watching it to see people beat the heck out of some vehicles and get some enjoyment out of watching it. No point in being angry the mopar didn't win. just my two cents.

Was that the REAL Top Gear, the british version, or the crappy rip off that's made over here?

The American version is garbage compared to the original...............Love on the original where they try with al their might to kill a toyota pickup, even to the point of it being tethered to a pier and rolling aroundin the ocean a bit, roll it down a hill, but it takes a licking and keeps on ticking
