slant six timing??

ok depending on the year motor there are a couple of different locations to check timing...

there should be a tab either on the drivers side, right above the oil pan, and one on the passenger side...

take your timing light, hook the clips to the battery, and the "C" clamp onto the number 1 plug wire... route the wires AWAY from the fan...

now start up the motor and take a look...

the light should be flashing... and there should be a mark or groove on the crankshaft.... line up the groove with the tab and there you go...

now to adjust go to the passenger side of the engine, you will see the distributor, had all the plug wires connected on top, there is a 7/16 bolt near the base, (front side), loosen it to adjust timing... should be from 8-12 at idle...

now when you turn the timing up, from the 2-5* it is now, the idle will raise, using a small screw driver you will need to turn the screw out that is on the throttle lever on the carb... 800rpm should be fine
