big block pro comp heads
I got mine just when the "new" ones came out last summer. Oh and yes ProComps they are.
I looked closely at them before using though..... I was surprised to find they are actually pretty damn tough! I had a valve strike when my camshaft failed "Used standard engine oil" and I bounced the pushrod up onto the highest point of the lifter. This caused a valve strike at RPM! The darn rocker arm held up perfectly and only bent the exh valve.
After tear down, repairs, and re assembly I decided to keep the rockers! I ran it up in RPM's pretty good since then many times and no failures....
I think some rockers come from various manufacture had the "touching the spring" issue when pockets cut aren't made deep enough for the particular spring dia you use in your build. I have read several posts where guys simply cut it out some more until they don't touch..
BTW I use 4.10:1 gears too, and run a 727 with reverse Cheeta manual VB. The converter is a Coan 3500 rpm and I wish it was more! I would love to have a 4500 rpm 9.5" converter to optimize the launch and a little better in gear idle.
I have lots of tire spin with Hoosier slicks on the road, but I suspect this will be much better at the strip! I think it might muster the front wheels up foot braking, and certain it will with a 4500 rpm converter if it hooks at the strip good enough.
A trans brake would be a NO Brainer if I wanted to do wheelies! That would certainly hang the front end plenty high!
I don't think it takes tons of power to lift the wheels when using a trans brake, and traction is good!
