considering a 72 scamp
Update on horny owl noise and other small steps:
Using the tried and true "screwdriver as stethoscope" method I was able to confirm that the bad bearing (horny owl) noise was coming from my alternator. Since I want to install a better stereo with a large amp this is a great time to go with a larger unit. I am taking recommendations if anyone has advice what to buy for a better than stock alternator.
Today I returned the scamp to a more reasonable ride height by adjusting the torsion bars, I got lucky and the bolts weren't frozen so it was quick and easy and the car rides much better now. Now its time for new (non-60 series) tires.
I also hooked up a timing light and vacuum gauge and go the idle mixture and timing set correctly. What a difference! Lost that dead spot and its starting easier as well. I was only able to get 8 degree btdc because of the plate so maybe tomorrow I'll pull the dizzy and move the plate.
Also I had a run in with some seedy looking characters at the local autozone who, without warning started pulling dents out of my fender then tried to shake me down for 500 bucks. They did a decent job so I laughed at them and gave em 50 bucks. Worth it to me and a good story. Got to love Brooklyn.
The Scamp has been a pleasure to drive and real success. Will post more pictures and a video soon.
