'78 Doba coming to life before death

If this is the wrong forum for this, I'm sorry. mods, please move it if needed.

So, as some have seen I was given a '78 Cordoba with a 360. It's kind of sad story really. The story is, it's my girlfriends step dads, fathers car that passed away. Her step dad would not let go of this car for nothing it seemed. It has sat here for 10 years doing nothing. Until I came along lol.

Actually, I got here just in time. It seems that the car he would never get rid of was becoming a burden to him just sitting here. He was about to call and have it "junked" until I showed up.

Joking around with him (trying to get him NOT to call to have it towed off) I told him I could get it to fire up. Of course in my head I was thinking the worst, but hoping he would let me work on his fathers car of days past. He then told me, "if you think you can get it to run, you can have it. if all you want is the motor, atleast some part of the car will be used. have at it".

I was floored to be honest with you. The five years I have been with my girlfriend she has always told me not to ask about the Cordoba. "It's his dads car. He will never get rid of it".

It seems that bringing my Valiant out here for him to see may have changed his mind. Atleast that is what I like to think.

Anyway, 2 days after telling him I could get it to fire (and getting crazy looks).....I fired it up. 10 years of sitting and the old girl fired up. I could see the smile on his face that he was trying to hide. He was excited. Unfortunately I can't get it to run perfectly on her own, but I think I know the problem. I'll get to that today sometime.

If the brakes weren't froze up and the tranny wasn't shot (the reason the car was parked), I'd try to get it out on the street.

But the coolest thing was he said to me "take as long as you want to get this motor running the way you want in the car. You don't want to put it in your Valiant untested". lol

He's just happy that something of his dads will live on. The motor is past the smoking stage now so that tells me that the 65,000 miles on it were gentle. Now I just got to get it to run on her own. She seems to be starving for fuel when she has plenty. As i said before, I believe I know the issue.

Anyway, that is the story of a '78 Cordoba power everything (including seats) and AC is coming to life just to be put to death.

Anybody need any Doba parts lol.
