solid roller vs. solid flat tappet for street??

I have a 686 solid roller in my stroker on the street so far no problem . the 700 kept braking lifter rollers.
Couple of questions?? Do things get that temperamental (?) when you get up that level?? That little bit extra lift sort of send you over the top? Are/were you running the same spring with the 2 different grinds??
