What is a good 4bbl carb for a 318 engine?

Hey Swinger:
I don't think you're going to be happy with just a carb upgrade, but i do read into this that you are on a budget as most of us are so please let me make a couple of suggestions if i may. I like small blocks. They can be made to put out a bunch of get up and go. Do the carb thing now if that's all you can afford then while your crusing the junk yards get you a set of 360 J heads and have them filled with the 2.02 intakes. These can be had resonable. With just a carb you have increased the input capabilities but still restricted on the intake and exhaust side and if you cant move it to the cylinders and get it out of the cylinders you have a bottle neck. I buy old scrap cars and trucks and vans for the motor and trans and pull what i want and haul the rest to the recycle(crusher). On the last one i paid $100, took out the 360, trans, and dana 60 and kept them then sold the van for $117 to the scrappers. You can do the same if your into that and tight like me. I just mothball the blocks and heads in the shop till i want them. A cam will pleasantly surprise you. It don't have to be one that slobbers like a rabid dog either. Shop around and ask a bunch of questions. Good luke and take your time. You're just 18.
