Restoring mid console
No one I know of does a complete restoration on the console itself, but the parts are restorable.......
Your cast metal parts can be stripped and replated with chrome.....that's the way they came to the factory......new woodgrain is then applied over the replate, BUT the new woodgrain does not exactly match the old.....better to do the dash along with the console for a good color match.
The housing can be repaired and painted exactly like you would do fiberglass parts, although if you want the original grained surface to remain, it's difficult to reproduce where there was once a crack......many body men will use a texture additive in the final painting to simulate the original grained appearance.
Of course, if your chrome is not that bad, a good polishing with 0000 steel wool will really shine it up....after this initial cleaning, you can better judge whether or not you'll want a complete replate (which is a bit expensive, BUT worth it if the car is destined to be a top shelf show winner).
I'm sure there must be someone out there who does the complete console for you, but I've yet to come across them......................:coffee2:
