Bought a hays street strip clutch kit for my 1970
Swinger and I'm having trouble getting it into reverse and
1st gear I talked to hays because I extended throw from 5 1/4 to 6in on pedal
And have replaced every nylon washer clips internal shift lever ball and spring
They tell me my pressure plate is not adjusted right and it is not releasing the clutch when I depress the pedal I have plenty of throw.
:pukerigh:
I have physically adjusted throwout bearing by sight and still can't get it into gear smoothly I have less than 500 miles on car so I pulled every thing apart
Sfi bell housing (fun) and I'm sending plate and clutch back to see what they think any body have similar problem please help!!!

Thanks steve

Yes ....you learn something new every day and I've had the car go 10 years
Gone through everything on clutch and shifter linkage replaced
Every clip nylon washer you name it Ajusted throwout bearing by eye watched bearing hit three fingers an back off till bearing stopped rotating 1/2 to 1 in play at top of pedal can't get any better . As I told the gent at hays I back the car into garage with pedal squashed into the carpet I shut car off in reverse an car stops like clutch is in gauged with pedal all the way out

Hey Ive got same think going on with a new hays street strip clutch/ pressure plate& throw out bearing.Going into Reverse grinds like clutch is engaged. 1st gear cant engage. If you shut down engine can shift into any gear depress clutch restart engine acts fine try to shift into any gear at this point not happening. I think pressure plate is the problem,I have also adjusted the clutch good throw dont think I could depress the pressure plate any more, maxed out. maybe the clutch discs is to thick? please post any findings. Also had problem with a new hays fly wheel came so rough had to have it surfaced. Machine shop asked if hays finished it with a chain saw. Sucks when you spend good money for something and the company really does not care if theres a problem with the product. WHATS HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OL U.S.A.

Hey jdog talked to Jim at hays I'm sending my pressure plate and clutch disc back to them there going to adjust the pressure plate he's said that the pressure plate is not disengaugeing they will set it up for free . Call hays and talk to Jim in specialty clutches nice guy very helpful tell him we talked I'm sure he will be interested that the two of us have the same exact problem

The best way to check it is with a feeler gauge between the disc and the pressure plate with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor. That way you can 100 percent ensure the disc is released or not. That is impossible with an explosion proof bellhousing. To work around this you could drill a hole in the bottom of the belhousing to prove this. It is possible the finger height of the pressure plate is wrong. This is likely what hays is going to do. There is a procedure in the old dirrect connection chassis manual on how to do this. I have always used McLeod pressure plates, if you can't get the hays one to release I would suggest a McLeod.

Hey, dart star called hays did not talk to jim said they would adjust the pressure plate . I told them I did not like the idea and wanted a refund. I dont want to reassemble & disassemble again. Does not make sense to me that hays would not know the correct set up from the start. How will they determine the correct pressure now? Should be able to buy , install ,adjust and go! Never have had this happen with a clutch set up. let us know how it works out. Ordered a zoom set up today.

Welcome Jdog Can't wait to see that Demon finshed nad doing a 4 speed burn out. Whoa !!!!!

Hey Blewbyu, I remember all so well of the A1A access ,rinker, carlton rd. nights of tire smoke & 4 speed launches.O yes the good times. Have you had your hemi out lately? New clutch showed up today will install fri-sat.
