First Car Stories

I got my first car, a 1948 ford convertible, in 1956. My dad drove it home from a wrecking yard at Christmas. I was to turn 16 in May of the next year. My "job" was to repair ALL the systems that didn't work and the fix the body. I never did get the top mechanism to operate. We parked it my grandfathers garage and when I turned 16 I had aluminum heads and dual carbs, duals with glass paks, of course. It provided bus service for my sister and her friends to school and my "learn how to drive this thing" adventures with my friends on the back roads of Edmonds Washington. Drove it for a couple of years and traded it for a 50 ford convertible. All the while Mom drove a 53 plymouth wagon and Dad traded his ford for a Plymouth. AAAAAAH those were the "good old days"
