67 Dart custom exhaust build w/pics
Hey guys since I'm new here and this is my first Mopar in about 18 years, that I'd try to contribute and post some pics in this section as I build the exhaust for this car. I'm no expert or pro but I ended up doing my own welding when I got big into turbo stuff, which saved a lot of money since there's a lot more piping than just for the mufflers :)
Anyway, maybe this will give you some ideas for your exhaust, and/or maybe you've got ideas for improvements on mine.
These are just a few pics, I was working on getting things done back to the mufflers for the initial startup (which happened last night). The car is a 67 Dart GT vert, I swapped the seized 273 for a bargain low mile 318 from a Charger. The headers came with the engine so I assume they are for a B-body, but they fit fine. Not sure what brand they are, they just are stamped "Mexico" with some number on each header flange.
I'll post more info and pics as it comes along...everything is 2.5" mild steel with stainless turndowns behind the rear tires.
Drivers side from the header. I used "header x-tensions" I think they're called, from Hedman. Unfortunately they're bare steel so the whole thing needs VHT, which bugs me since the collectors and reducers will get scratched up and rusty more than any other part of the exhaust:
Muffler weld painted with VHT. Going over them now with the bright silver since I didn't realize this one was so dark.
Under the car fitment. You can see the other "header x-tension" comes out at a funky angle. I'll address that in the next picture.
Cut in the bend, gives the pipe the angle it needs and shouldn't affect flow..I tack them in place under the car, pull it back out to give it a nice weld, then back under the car.
MORE PICS TO COME!
