Anti-Theft Suggestions.

For quite a while, I used a Master Lock placed right in the hood release slot. Worked fine, couldn't move the hood release lever far enough to release the latch. No chain, just a key needed. All you need to do to disable the car at this point is remove the lead to the ballast resistor and the car will not start. Not as convenient as a hidden switch, but it protects the underhood area as well as prevents theft.

This works for a 1968 Barracuda, but I haven't tried it on a Dart, Duster, or the like.

The lighter idea is awesome. I think ill run the ground wire of my spst relay powering my hei thru the lighter.
 
pop the hood and remove the coil wire? Doubt a car thief would EVER think to bring a coil wire with to steal a car haha
 
If you dont smoke you can convert the cigar lighter into a kill switch. Get a puch pull switch, mount the "handle" of the lighter to the switch knobs original location. Ground one side of the switch, run the other to the coil with quality wire and mount it in the original lighter location. Pll the switch to allow the car to run, push it to disable. Nobody suspects it to be the kill switch. very hidden.
 
I had a convertible that I wired one of those Motorola radio's into the interior light system in the car and put it in the radio in the glovebox with the call button taped down.
The other radio was next to my bed on a charging unit and I would turn it on at night.

I left the car unlocked because it was a vert and I didn't want the top destroyed because some jerk want my tach off the dash.
I didn't have interior light bulbs in it, so if you opened the door there was no lights or anything but you sure knew someone just opened your door because the call on the radio would go off.

You knew, but they didn't know you knew.

So that when people dont pay the car lot can get online log in and either see where the car is or just flat out shut it down. Their called imitek trackers or something like that. They cost under $200 and you have the ability to shut it down without the middle man

When my car slept outside I had a baby monitor under my seat with the receiver next to my bed. You can hear somebody by the car talking. Now it's sleeping inside.

Leaving your cell phone hidden somewhere in the car is a good idea

Again I'm more worry about it being strip of parts then stolen...even happen with the Duke boy's, lol.... a new auto parts store in Hazard run in part by Boss Hogg, they steal your stuff and sell it back to you, ha ha..now there is ebay to fence the stolen goods
 
Thanks for all of the great ideas! I ordered a steering wheel club to deter the joy rider types and will use the coil wire idea for the more serious criminals. Also, that GPS is a great idea and less than $200. I have used the GPS locator to find my iphone a few times already and it worked really well.
