84*86 truck 318

My duster has a 84 318 in it now and it runs pretty good.
I thought they did not come out until 86?

Ya, I was told that I was full of s*%t,, but The date is on the block so.... It came out of a Dodge Diplomat with a 2 barrel to boot . I understand that the 318 was first with the roller then the 360. The engine that I was replacing was in a 88(360) Dodge D 350 and it was Flat Tappet. You never know with Ma Mopar.

I don't think they came out until '86, at least, everything I've ever seen before says they didn't. The 302 heads and roller cam came out for the 318 in '86, the 360 didn't get them until '88. But even then not all of the 318/360 engines had 302/308 heads and rollers. Maybe it was rebuilt at some point and changed over? Or maybe someone just swapped the cam and heads? Hard to say with old engines, just because the block is an '84 doesn't mean the rest of it is.

I've got an '86 318 that has 302 heads, but no roller cam. Go figure.
