Why not go rack and pinion? Wouldnt it take up less space if thats an issue?

As you can see, the power steering really takes up a lot of space. This will make it difficult to put in longtubes. I'm going to convert to manual steering. What do you guys recommend I do for that? Was looking at stock boxes, but given that I plan to daily this thing...I was looking at a flaming river setup. Would like to avoid that if possible (too much $$$). Are stock rebuilt manual boxes reliable and solid performers?
