Touching story of my late friend.

Wouldn't we avoid all these liability concerns if you get the car for Tyler but wait til he turns 18 to give it to him which is less than a year from now?

I don't know about NJ laws but here there is a $1.00 per day penality on any title not transfered within 30 days. Same with the plates after 30 days a $1.00 per day penality with a cap of $100.00. Insurance is required unless you black tag the vehicle. A black tag might be your non-op plate.

Why not just do it the legal way? Create a contract with Tyler's mother to even do this and post a copy on the site so it can be down loaded so everyone is protected? In the contract, it should include the title goes in to Tyler's mother's name at time of purchase and the ownership as well as the title is transfered to Tyler on his 18th birthday. There should be a hold harmless clause also. A NJ attorney should be consulted so NJ law is followed.
