GM Weatherpack connectors are great, but aren't cheap unless you rob junkyard cars and solder-heat shrink. You can find bullet connectors at most auto parts in the bubble packs. Use dielectric grease and no problems in dry Utah. You have 2 wires on the driver's side because one wire is the source and the other one continues to the passenger side marker lamp. Mopardude318's car probably splits the passenger wire off earlier.
