Dart that won't start??

It has an auto trans. Did move to neutral and back to park with no change. Seat belt safety has be disconnected for about 15 yrs. will check ballast then try jumping the starter.

Thanks for everyone's input.

OK, get your test light and meter and do some shooting

Your starter relay should look something like this:

Start with the two push on connectors, the two on top in the photo. Have a helper twist the key to "start" on your command, or else rig clip leads so you can prop the meter up to see.

Hook the meter first to one, then the other push on terminal. Do NOT disconnect the wires, "backprobe" the connector. ONE of the connectors should be "hot" in "start."

If both connectors show hot, this means the neutral safety switch is not going to ground in park/ neutral, or else the wiring is broken/ poor connection, or hanging disconnected at the transmission

Disconnect ONE wire. Probe the wires and find out which one is hot in start. Hook that wire back to the relay. Does NOT matter which push--on terminal it hooks to. Ground the remaining push--on terminal with a clip lead, and try the key in "start" again. It should crank. Be careful, it will crank in any gear.

IF so, you have a wiring/ neutral safety switch problem

If NEITHER wire shows hot in "start," you are not getting power from the key, through the bulkhead, past the seatbelt interlock and to the start relay.

Is that relay under the hood? How did you bypass the interlock? Check the yellow wires at the relay, with the key in "start" and see if either goes "hot." If so the problem is right there at that relay. Pull the two yellow/ yellow/ tracer wires and hook them together.

If NEITHER yellow at the relay are hot, move back to the bulkhead connector, if you don't have it there, get under the column, remove the trim piece, and access the ignition switch connector. You can back--probe the connector, and check for starter power there.
