Any suggestions for a daily driver under $10,000?
I will soon be in the market for a daily driver under $10,000.00.
I looked at a 2004 Impala SS with 84,000mi for $9000.00, that was pretty nice... but I start to question the reliability of a Supercharged engine. This car needs to last me awhile.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
I have a 2005 Impala SS that I just turned 102 k on it. It gets 24 - 25.5 MPG on the hoghway and still kicks it around town. Don't worry about the supercharged engine, I have a 99 Grand Prix that has the same engine with 192 k on it. That's why I bought the Impala SS. It only had 50 k on it when I first got it. I love to drive it.
what I don't like about it:
If any "light bulbs" on the dash go out the dealer rapes you. The two bulbs for the dual temp control burnt out and they told me that they had to put in a whole new control for the heaters as they are LED's not bulbs.
Same with the radio. I have a few bulbs out on the preset station buttons and they want to sell me a new radio. You can't change the radio if you need to reset the onboard diagonostics or reprogram new key fobs. You can do that through the stock radio, so I just live with the burnt out "bulbs".
Lucky for the heater control, the previous owner had an extended warranty that I was able to transfer into my name for $50. That covered most of the temperature control head ($350.00). It expired before the radio bulbs burnt out.
I called Gm and told them about my disappointment that instead of a $2 or $3 bulb, I had to buy whole new controls when the lights burnt out. I told them that I would not buy another newer of their product if they are made that way. I as a customer will not put up with expensive repair bills. They claim it is new "technology". I told them that they should then stick to old technology until they can get the cost down on maintaining the new technology...
The other alternative is to get replacement parts from a junk yard.
Overall, I like the Impala and am happy with the powertrain. I would recommend it to others. Don't forget to change the oil in the supercharger periodically. I've found that some dealers are clueless about that....
