73' B3 340 Duster pro touring build
Who has a "stock" Duster that we know.....
Note to the younger members: You must understand that HemiDenny et al
come from the era of the late great Don Carlton (see photos).
Word has it that when they first desperately needed to reduce frontal area
to be able to compete with the much smaller Vegas and Pintos they watched
the NHRA teching the cars and noted that they were determining the overall
width by the center-to-center measurement of the headlamp lenses.
Soooo......they built a Duster with the headlamps in the correct location and
they used up all of the space between the lenses and the front fenders. The
rest of the car was an inch narrower.
These images (from my pal, Stewart Pomeroy, former owner of the original
Mopar Missle Duster as depicted in the famous ACCEL spark plug ad) show
a couple of the other liberties taken. Note that the front fender mod has
been emulated on HemiDenny's current "stocker" Duster.
Why do they do this now? Entertainment? To honor the legend? Just never
trust one of these trecherous old bastards.
