59 Plymouth Fury
Boy that picture brings back lots of memories!
Back when I was just a young 10-year old kid, my mom bought a new '59 Fury just like that, except Flame Red body and Iceberg White top. She was really concerned about the bright colors because she'd traded in a '54 Hudson Hornet 4-door that was painted a baby blue body and cream white top.
I remember riding with her in the Fury on a really hot day going to the 1959 World Series at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. She asked me to open a canned (remember "churchkey" can openers before pop tops?) ginger ale from the lunch she'd packed and it spurted all over the inside of her new car making it a sticky mess. I remember it so well because of that and also because it was a Monday and I was missing school to go to a baseball game! Our seats were waaaaay out in the peristyle end of the Coliseum - probably close to 200-feet past the right field fence right below the thermometer that showed over 100F at gametime.
My mom got sick because of the heat and had to go to the medical aid station to cool down and I sat alone in the seats for most of the game. That wouldn't happen now. The game attendance that day was 92,650.
Funny the memories that just a picture of an old car can bring.
