duralast ball joints vs moog

-
Reboxed China stuff. Joe's comment on Spicer Pro: Sold by Napa, Spicer chassis parts. Owned by Dana,Equivalent to the Premium Moog line. Was made in the U.S,fifteen or so years ago.Bad440 mentioned the QA 1 ball joints.Really good looking parts.

Raybestos Pro Grade is another. I think that's the Spicer line as well

Check roackauto and Amazon. Amazon can be a great source with free shipping on orders over $25

ok i found a local supplier who has dusty old boxes of moog ball joints, upper and lower for my project car. $10 each for the uppers, $55 each for the lowers. the boxes say made in USA on the uppers, the lowers he's not sure about. Those are in his warehouse.

any suggestions on a good quality set of the 70 up C body pitman and idler arms? supposedly this is what chrysler used on the T/A challengers for fast ratio steering. i believe PST has the set for $200 is it good quality?

before i pull the trigger on this one, i was looking at the raybestos professional line brand ball joints. they have a professional grade, and a service grade. the difference in the part numbers is just a letter B at the end of the number on the service grade ones. any difference in the 2 ? i can get these at rock auto. is raybestos professional line made in the states? any quality issues between their service grade and professional grade lines?

So how about it, anybody have good experiences with the raybestos pro line parts? I can get the proline lowers, and inner and outer tie rod ends from rock auto. Auto parts store misquoted me on the moog uppers, i didnt buy them.

I also checked speedway motors large upper mopar balljoints. Racing car $hit. Anybody have luck with these. Noticed speedway has a machined threaded ring thats for the threaded ball joints to thread into. Probably for making custom upper A arms with mopar ball joints.

Probably can be used to repair upper A arms with boogered ball joint threads, or to convert your small ball joint arms to big ball joint.

In most cases you get what you pay for. I personally don't trust Autozones brands at all. An $11 ball joint seems like a nice savings until you have to do it again in a couple years. At that point you'll be kicking yourself for not spending the extra money in the first place.

Now remember with PST you aren't necessarily getting Moog. Their kits seem to be pieced together using various brands, moog included.

I don't like doing suspension work so I like to do it once and then forget about it. That's why I go with Moog.
x2

The moog uppers my auto parts store had were old made in usa parts, the guy way misquoted the price, when i went down there to get em the price was double what was quoted over the phone.

Now im back to square 1 so im going to ask again, anybody have good luck with raybestos proline ball joints and tie rod ends? How about the raybestos service grade ones? Or how about the uppers offered by speedway motors? Apparantly chrysler screw in ball joints are common in dirt track. They sell screw in ball joint rings to make your own A arms but i am willing to bet these can be used to repair large ball joint arms, or to modify your small ball joint arms into large ball joint arms. For those of you with good welding skills.

Frankly, I'd be tempted to take the "old USA Moogs" at the "new double" price.

Just what did he end up saying he wanted? How did this happen? Did he get "collector's price religion" suddenly?

Guy quotes me $10 over the phone per joint thursday. i ask does it say made in USA. he says yes. Then he says i can give you preferred member pricing of $8.49 each. I say great. I will be down there on saturday to pick them up.

I go down there on saturday, they ring up the parts tell me its $44 and change, i tell him theres something wrong i was quoted $8.49 plus tax each over the phone on thursday. He said thats the price on their store brand. I told him we were talking specifically about the moog joints thursday. That name was mentioned several times on thursdays conversation.

I felt lied to, or bait and switched, either way i dont want these parts from them. Can you blame me.

I would have walked as well.....

I would be carefull of the Raybestos brand. I bought a Raybestos brand Front wheel bearing assy for a Buick, from Rockauto. I thought I would be getting the best quality. Came in a Raybestos box that said made in China. Same paperwork in the box, that is in the Advance "store brand" box. I called Raybestos, to complain, and was told they have nothing to do with that part. They sold the "name" to another company, for their use. Talk about dilution of the brand name.

Is there a difference in the raybestos service grade and their professional grade suspension parts?

I would have bitched, especially if a chain store. napa, zone, oreilly, carqst, advanced etc. and forced them to meet me at least half way.

In your case, I would send email to corporate - a very professional letter on how unprofessional you were treated, that will do it, they WILL take care of you.

The other day I could have hooked you up with some vintage old stock USA Moog ball joints cheap but when you found the $10.00 ones I turned someone else on to where they were. Now they are gone because he bought them.

Figured i could go a different direction if the speedway ball joints were quality parts, or maybe the raybestos pro line.

Maybe the raybestos service line is china? And their pro line is USA. they give a 2year 24k mile warranty on the pro line stuff.

I dont have any experience with raybestos pro line this is why i posed the question. Their website shows a cut away pic of the pro line joints, shows to be heavy duty all metal construction. No plastic.

I haven't seen a cutaway of any Moog ball joints, only the idler arm that was being ran against headers that was in the link I posted.

The China ones I have had fall apart didn't have any plastic either so I wouldn't count much on internet pictures from the company. They looked identical to the Moog ones I replaced them with so looks mean nothing. Quality of the metal means everything. Look at the Vice Grip thread and see what I am talking about. The mold didn't change on the China Vice Grips just the quality of the metal.

I go to the local parts warehouse (O'reillys is pretty shitty, but they carry Moog) and tell him to bring the box with USA made parts in it. No USA, don't bother.

I remember a man that owned a frame shop back in the 90s telling me TRW ball joints had plastic internals. I don't know if they still in business.
There used to be Chief Auto Parts around here. I was told they carried Moog in their store brand boxes.

be careful of the newer moog stuff. have read that they are made over seas and not as good of quality..

I will say I 100% agree with that..... re doing my front suspension and the moog lower ball joints have a taper to them and wont go flush to the spindle where the bolts go thru... I'm gonna have to have the spindles milled flat in that area.

Explain what you are saying. The bolts shouldn't have a tapered area and if they do milling the spindles will do nothing.

i like moog i have only had to replace the front end parts one time on the valiant but shes my daily driver and theyve been on for close to 2yrs now the front end is nice and tight but i need to find a shop that does really good alignment
