1960-1962 Valiant/Lancer thread

SIX TWO SIG, I'll have to keep in touch with you. I'm in the middle of moving and changing jobs right now, so the Valiant is going to ignored for another month or two.

I'm hoping to learn to weld, using this project as my classroom. Any advice you have on that will be most welcome. For underhood work and any metal repairs, my finish colour will be Tremclad White. Cheap, sturdy, and available anywhere. If I ever get around to doing a real paint job, it'll be close enough to Ermine White that I won't have strip down the whole car again.

I'll be dropping in a 225 slant six where the original 170 once sat (now long gone). From what I've read, I'll need to watch for variations that were made to the engine's auxiliaries during its long production run. Rumour is that Volares and Aspens in the early '80s had the best of the bunch, although this "Super Six" was strangled by primitive pollution controls, which I would guiltily delete.

I'm not aiming to build a show car here, just a daily driver with character. All the loose trim that I've inspected so far is good enough for my purpose, except the bumpers, which need chroming. I fear that will make everything else look shabby and the "While You're In There's" will kick in. Must. Resist.
