... Sorry to say, but I've been in your situation. It's a no-win situation. Customer won't pay for or supply the necessary parts to get the project done and then spends months badmouthing you for his or her decision.

A former boss of mine said it best. "The customer is always right. Most of the time, they're just unreasonable."

Oh boy Robert, I can surely relate to that part!!!

I have to agree with the suggestion of a thorough write-up (which needs to be easily understood by laypersons [such as a jury of his peers]) and plenty of photographic documentation to cover your a$$. If the customer is behaving like this now, just imagine how it's going to progress over the next few months when he's really getting sick of riding the bus back and forth to work ...
