Yeah, if he thinks it's from an '84 truck, I picked that up just by the valve covers with raised vent ports and the tailshaft having the double shifter mount locations on it. Looks like it has an edelbrock 4bbl too. Nice find!
If the front lever is facing down and nobody has messed with it, it's likely an overdrive trans.
If you aren't going that direction and want 1:1, gear sets and main shafts swap, no problem. Check the thread about swapping O/D and 1:1 gears.
There is also an article on here about how to use the long shaft trans with the A body. You could get a short main shaft and housing to swap it, too.
That engine may or may not have 302 heads and it looks like it's sporting a 90 degree oil filter adapter, which is a bonus. If you pull the valve cover, look for casting numbers that end with 302. It's unlikely, but worth checking. If it does, you scored closed chamber swirl heads with that setup.
