I need a big bore (3.505") head gasket to use as a guide to counterbore the combustion chambers for piston clearance.

So far the only source I can find are from Aussiespeed & they are $90 a pop! & that doesn't include shipping!

charrlie S is the one i get me head gaskets thru. he sells a 3.510 x .021 steel head gasket. i think the felpro ones are 3.510 x .037 if i remember correctly. will mic when i get back from fishing!

Either would be perfect, but unless the .021" gaskets are easy to get I would opt for the more readily available FelPro, IF the FelPros would hold up to 13:1 CR & nitrous.

The gaskets I have in stock are the OEM steel shim gasket (part number 2843182). They do mic between 3.510-3.515. I have my doubts about either the Felpro or the OEM steel gasket holding up to 13-1 and nitrous. I would opt for a solid copper gasket with "O" ring in the block and/or head.

Well I plan to sneak up on the nitrous so if I would blow a gasket it probably wouldn't be a catastrophic failure since both the block & head are cast iron.

My labor is free so the difference in cost would just be a gasket set.

Is there a source for copper gaskets for the \6?

Can't you use a used factory steel shim gasket for that?

Yes.

Hussey copper used to have them. I brokered a group purchase a few years ago, but they have shut down.
A google searce will turn up a couple of other companies, but I don't know if they have slant six gaskets.
I have used Hussey and SCE. Never used Clark, but have talked to them since Hussey shut down, and would try them, next time.

Would solid copper gaskets be better than OEM or FelPro if the block/head wasn't "O" ringed?

I know they worked well on British motorcycle engines.

I'm confused. What would "that" mean, & why would I want a "used" gasket as opposed to a new one?

Maybe I misinderstood, but I thought you needed the head gasket for a template to counterbore the chambers?

I sure do. Just came off my Super Six.

I don't have first hand experiance, with that.
Ideal is to have a "O" ring in the block or head, and a matching receiver groove in the other component.
I have an "O" ring in the block, and no receiver groove in the head. It has worked fine. I know some have run a copper gasket without a "O" ring. With a copper head gasket head/block flatness is critical.

You are talking about a metal "O" ring right?

A stainless wire is tapped into the groove that is cut in either the head or block. The wire protrudes slighty above the surface.

LOL Rob....

But I gotta ask, why do people keep tossing around Clifford Performance? Unless their customer service has improved DRAMATICALLY in the last 4-5 years, I wouldn't order a piece of bubble gum from them.

I talkd to the people @ Clark this afternoon & they advised me that for nitrous I needed "O" rings W/recesses on both the head & block.

Looks like another expense to keep this \6 monster alive..
