1973 Dart Sport V8 Factory Air
The unemployment "rate" may have dropped but that's just because the government removed millions from the workforce participation rolls. Based on workforce participation, and especially under 40 males (the ones much more likely to buy a Mopar), unemployment is at an all time high since they have been keeping records on such things. When you say unemployed, it means something completely different in government speak then it does in real world speak. That 25 year old college dropout in his parents basement isn't actively looking for a job so he's not unemployed even though he has never worked a day in his life.
Stocks are good and housing is coming back but those two things hurt classic car sales not help. Why spend money on a hobby car when money can make more money?
Some of it also is there are hot new cars you can buy with fuel injection, no rust, and air conditioning, financed with low interest. In the 90s when musclecars really boomed new car sucked, I'd say about 2005 was the start of quality alternatives off the showroom floor from every maker to satisfy your bug.
Also every collectible will go through a phase where they reach the peak. Normally it's 40 and 50 year olds who finally have some extra money to buy the dreams of their youth. So if you were 15 in 1970 and dreamed of a Hemi cuda you are 58 today. In 20 more years you may not even be driving and the 40-50 year olds will be dreaming of something completely different. (ok the hemi cuda is a bad example, babies in the womb begin to dream about those just from the vibration of their mother's bellies!)
Good luck with the sale, brother I feel your pain!
