67 Cuda broken reverse switch activator rod

OK, I found the part number is 2883211. I also found that Brad's NOS parts has it for $45, but that's crazy money for such a flimsy plastic part that will probably just break again. Does anyone have one for less? Does anyone make these out of metal?

If I find a metal replacement for this, does anyone else want one?
