Hi folks,
So i started to get ready to put a rebuilt head on my slant six. I bought this car not running and found the valves are not seated at all. So now that the head is off and I installed a new timing chain i want to set timing. I have cylinder 1 at tdc and the balance at 5 degrees before tdc. But the rotor is still a little off from the number one on distributor. I loosened at turn the distributor as far as i can and its still off. Is 5 degree BTDC right i keep ready different things.

You don't set the timing chain to 5 degrees BTDC.
It goes in with it's factory timing marks lined up, and the distributor is where you set the timing for advance.

With number 1 cyclinder at TDC on the compression stroke (Both valves closed)

I'm sorry for the miss understanding my dots are aligned. Im referring to the relationship of the markings on the balancer at 5 degrees BTDC and the rotor.

I thought you could pull the distributor and move it a tooth.
Is this not the case with the slant?
