Cheapest way to lock up a non sure grip?

the welded spider gears will work. you just have to turn a lil' more aggressively. lol
 
The "lunchbox locker" is the SAME as a Detroit Locker, but it replaces the spider and side gears in open differential cases and turns them essentially into a Detroit Locker. Same principle.
 
Thanks for all the input! I think I will try and weld it. I did a google search and found this picture.


don't weld a piece in between the gears like pictured if you want to get the axles out again, the picture is only for ford rear ends and 8 3/4 where the axles are retained from the outside not C clips in the center

I have done this but also welded the side gears to the case as well. (did it on a Dana 44 in my Willys wagon)

I broke a tapered keyed axle and just drove it home (90 minute drive) but the carrier was fine.

Used this method in my demolition cars for years . No breaky . But turning sharp so sucks with it . Especially when the car isn't running . Still got something like a 5:14 in the garage somewhere .

No it don't. Just STOMP on it goin around turns and slide around um.
