Scouting was one of my favorite activities I have ever taken part in. Both my older brothers are Eagle Scouts, and my parents were heavily involved. Unfortunately, the troop essentially dwindled off as me and a few other boys ranked out.

BSA is a great organization, and I hate to see it losing popularity in this area. My leaders were very involved, and we did pretty decent at events. Personal favorite was always the Peterloon Jamboree here in SW Ohio, cool to see scouts from around the world! On that note, every year we stayed at the same summer camp location, and next door was always a scout troop from Israel. Traded some badges and such. :glasses7:

Always wanted to go to Philmont. Never made it, but we did canoe the Boundary Waters in Minnesota.

That where I went to camp every summer, I'm taking the Explorer Post there next month for a event and haven't been there sense I was 17 and I'm looking forward to see how things have changed

Look for a bear in dining hall i painted wearing a Seminole
Jacket OA Lodge Osceola 564 or troop 35
we dressed in our Seminole clothes and took part in the OA ceremony at the campfire. I was ceremony adviser and had 5 members of our
team at camp. had a great time at CDB.

They tore the old dinning hall down and have built a new one :banghead:
I would have loved to have seen it, I'll take pics for you and how it has changed,
They moved the archery range and the rifle range it's all totally diffrant

Guys this is great that so many are Eagle Scouts or have been involved cant wait to hear more stories

My son made Eagle in 2007 Colorado Centenial. I chaired the Eagle board of review for the district for 3 years.

Parents need to be reminded, it is not a race but a journey.

Oh man, I couldn't agree more!

We had some parents who were insistent that their kids should just be handed the honor of being an Eagle Scout. They didn't get the fact that it takes hard work, and commitment, along with good leadership skills to make it that far.

And that Eagle isn't the end of the journey...got pretty tired of kids who "Eagle Out" - last time we see them is at their Eagle Court of Honor. It's not a check box 'OK, got Eagle, check, time to go do something else for the resume'.

i had two get their Eagle at the same time one was 14 and the other was 18
later in life the one who got it at 14 told me that it didn't mean as much to him as it did the 18 year old and i agreed the 18 yo stayed on as a ASM until he went into the Army.
had 2 in Marines 1 was President Guard on air force 1
1 in Navy and 1 Army and 2 are still in

I couldn't agree more most are handed to them today or the troop does all the merit badges as a group and do 10-12 a year "don't know how"
I worked so hard and was finished in Jan of 1995 and found out that family life merit badge was added and it had 90 days to complete I busted my but and finished it 2nd week in march turned 18 on the 27th of march, my Eagle board kept getting postponed and it was the 25 th of March @ 6:00 pm and got a call saying my board of review had to be postponed and I put my foot down and said no it had to be done today and took to council office tomorrow. Or I wouldn't get it and they made it happen. I worked hard and made it, there was no extensions allowed then u eather got it or didn't. I got the last merit badge. At my Eagle ceremony,
Any one else have a close call story

There was a Troop 30 miles away that we called the eagle troop. The leaders made sure these boys were pushed threw and received all there merit badges. The boys hardly did anything but their leaders made sure they got there badges.

When I was Scoutmaster, I had one boy show up at 9:00 on the night before he turned 18 to finish up his Scoutmaster's conference and get his paperwork all in order (you have 3 months after your birthday to have your board, and can get an additional 3 months with special approval (stuff happens sometimes)).

Everything was finished and ready to go for his board of review at 11:30 p.m.
That's the closest call, but there were several others within the last week of their 18th birthday.

I had some awesome leaders, they always had us out on great adventures, teaching us a lots, and even got into some hijinx along the way. I'm sure you all can relate to that. But they motivated and pushed us as needed because they knew then what we know now-that we wouldn't regret what we've earned and we could always be proud of our accomplishments. Got 3 boys between the Boy Scouts and the Cubbies.

I don't have any experience with the push em' through or Eagle out phenomenon. Scouts should be left to decide their own path with guidance from their leaders and piers. The resources available through the Scouting program and a good advisor(s) is what it takes, nothing more. My experience in Scouts has given me direction and follow through in all of my life challenges. I know my family benefits from the leadership and fellowship I gained from Scouting.

Glad to see we have so many Scouts And Scouting Parents among our group.

I made it to Star. OA member also. Earned polar bear 3 years straight with a nylon tent. lmao!, what was I thinking? La Salle council. Did anyone camp at camp Tamarack in Jones, MI?

I never made it far in the scouts. I'm not sure if it was because we lived in the city growing up, but my daughter has completed all the levels of girl scouts, earned her Silver Star, and is now a life scout. My son has completed all the levels of scouting starting as a Tiger Scout and will be going for his review for his Eagle Scout within the next few weeks. I just helped him tonight to do his final corrections to his application for his Eagle Board of review.
