I watch 'Roadkill' which is a video magazine on You Tube. Its Frieburger and FInnegan from Hot Rod. They drive around in various vehicles doing silly crap. It's a great show.
Anyway, they were talking back and forth during one of their adventures and had some insightful observations that struck a chord with me. I don't remember exactly what they said but it went something like ...
..."Cars are like appliances to most people. That's why they're all silver blobs. It's really too bad as a culture that you can't talk about your car with the person next to you at the gas pump." ...
The reality is that car guys are still outsiders in 2013.
