Looking for some cam advice

It's been a while since I've been on any Mopar boards. Good to be back.

I'm considering going to a hydraulic roller over my solid lift cam this winter. I don't race the car anymore and don't plan to spin the motor over 6500 rpms. My car sits most of the time and I'm a little leery of valve spring fatigue with a solid lift set up. Maybe someone can educate me if I'm being paranoid?

This motor was built back in 2005 in a joint effort between Ryan Johnson and Scott Brown. Ryan did the heads and intake and Scott designed the cam. I did the install. I know Ryan is still in the business but what happened to Scott Brown?

Here is some info for you guys.

Small block 340 stroked to 416.
12.5 Compression; Indy 360-2 CNC heads 210 intake 165 Exhaust; Indy single plane intake cut down 1” for hood clearance; 1” HVH spacer; Turtle installed in the intake; Carter mechanical fuel pump
1050 Dominator
Crane HI-6 Ignition and coil; MSD distibutor Mech advance
Solid lift cam;
lobe lift Intake 388/Exhaust 390 1.6 rocker
Valve lift Intake 621/ Exhaust 624
Duration Intake 284/ Exhaust 302
@50 Intake 254/ Exhaust 266
Centerline Intake 108/ Exhaust 116
Lash Intake 12/ Exhaust 20
4 Speed car 4:10 gear 28” tire
Exhaust TTI headers 1 7/8 Primary; 3" X pipe; 3" Sintech Super Pro 9000 mufflers dumped at muffler.
Initial timing 22 degrees all in at 36 degrees (2200 rpms)
Car weighs 3420 with me in it.

This dyno sheet was done with a 950 HP holley and M1 intake. That carb and intake never worked very well for me as you can see on the afr in the dyno sheet is was pretty fat. I changed to the 1050 dominator and Indy intake after that and never went back to the dyno. The car did run better though.

My goal is to make the same power if possible with a hydraulic set up.
 
Did you get the full port and polish?

If not...you are actually gonna need .600 lift to make anywhere near the power it makes now.

Those heads are nice, but stockishly lazy in flow under .500. Full Ported factory iron have the .500 and less of the full blown ported version 360 Indy.

None the less, you can get a pretty nice lunati hyd roller in the same lift you have..but spring will be in the same lifespan. If the heads did better at lower lifts, I'd recommend you drop the lift to .570 and stick with similar duration@.050

Lift is what's hammering the springs.
 
To be honest with you it was a long time ago and I can't remember what Ryan did exactly. I know he did a valve job etc but as far as full port and polish??

My concern really isn't with the lift while running but having the spring compressed when it's not running and the car may sit 3 months without being started. I figured the hydraulic lifter would take the stress off the springs when I'm not driving it.
 
It will to a point, but the valve springs will still be collapsed on a few every time it sits.
Higher the lift, more psi, more spring compression.
You might consider loosening the rocker shafts when the time comes for it to sit none running.

Its hard to make a recommendation in cam when aftermarket heads with no flow sheet are in the picture. We could really cripple the thing in regards to what power it made before and then after a misinformed cam rec is installed.
 
I know what you mean.

If I were going to let the car sit for an extended period of time I would back off the rockers but I keep the car here at my dealership and once in a while I need to move it for one reason or another.

I may try and track down Scott Brown and see if he remembers building my cam and see what he recommends.

I figured this would be a hard question to get answered.
