I am trying to decode the casting #`s on my slant 6.
They are 2806830-2
I also see another set of #`s - 11238
and letters AM.

Can anyone crack this code?

Thanks

you need to look at the numbers right behind the alternator under the number one plug. there is a little 1/4" deep by maybe 3" long pad there.

Hello, 805moparkid. Per your listed chart, I found a stamped number just like you indicated below the 1st spark plug. We have a '65 Barracuda /6 225. The number stamped is "A 225 1 18 2". I decode this casting number as a 1965, 225 ci that was stamped on January 18. Would you agree? But what is the last "2" number indicate?

Thank you so much!

The block casting# of 2806830-2 appears to disagree w/ your decoding of the stamped number. The casting shows as a 68+ engine in the chart of post #3 and in another source I saved. If yours has 5 freeze plugs all in a row, I doubt it is a 1965 engine. My 64 slant has casting# 2463430-8 and 3 freeze plugs, staggered, which is consistent with above table, though my other source lists 1966 (I don't know the history). All early blocks had 3 freeze plugs.

how many freeze plugs does it have and are the bypass hose, hose clamps touching or about an inch apart?

That should be a '68-75 steel crank engine with 5 freeze plug block.
I have an AM casting engine in my' 71 Dart. The "BH" castings are said to be extra thick ribbed and good for racing purposes.

These pics are of my rebuild and my drivers casting #s. The top one was the original 225 engine from a 69 dart 3 on the tree. I had never seen the AM on a slant before this one. The bottom is the original 198 slant thats in my 71 Scamp with a column automatic. Thats BF but they both have the same casting #s. They do both have forged internals though. I dont really know what the letters mean but I know they are different.

Moparkid in that bottom chart it says something about an "AAWJ" suffix. my 69 225 block has those letters but what is that part of the chart talking about? Just wondering if maybe you know cuz I don't but i'm interested.

look to mean a cast crank motor from 76 and newer... but I think that number would be on the crank not the block

If you are unfamiliar with casting numbers and want to know if a slant has a steel crank or not, just look at the ridge right behind where the water pump mounts. The chunk of steel that runs to side of the block (triangular in a way) will be kinda flat and wide on a steel crank engine. Cast cranks have the narrow/thinish ridge there.

It has 3 freeze plugs and yes, the hose/hose clamps are very close together. The car was built at the Los Angeles plant, original owner lived in Huntington Beach, CA... second owner (family friend of 1st) lived in Orange, CA and we are the 3rd owner living in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The owner's manual has the original plate # written in it... the plates that are still on the car.

A California car through and through!
