4 speed shifter problems need help here

He had the rods going to the wrong hole. I changed them. 3rd-4th gear to the outside hole.1st-2nd to the center hole and reverse to the inside small hole.reverse hole is too small for the adjuster. I cant get the 1st-2nd gear to move back and forth. my rods don't look like the rods you show in the picture. whats wrong in this picture.
