Urgent for itunes users
Deleted everything, ran registry cleaners, installed itunes. Finished installing itunes and opened it and!
"Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall itunes.
Error 7 (Windows error 126)"
hit ok and then this popped up again
"The program cant start because dbghelp.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this."
Problem being is ITUNES is whats causing this and not letting me run other programs either...
Hey Edd,
Have you tried a system restore to see if you can at least get it back to before the Itunes update was done?
I assume you have, but anyway, there are multiple instances of dbghelp.dll in Windows and they are of different file sizes and in different places.
There is (or should be) one in C:/windows/system32 that is 625k as well as other places in win XP so before anyone gets the idea to copy it from one place to another be warned that because of the difference in file sizes, they probably don't work exactly the same.
I would try seeing if the one in the system32 folder can be replaced with an original from the Win XP disc, because it's dated as 2008 so it might just be the original dbghelp.dll that is missing if other things than I tunes does not work.
If you want to try that I can upload an original dbghelp.dll file to my server for you to download and put in the C/windows/system32 folder.
There is also a recommedation to replace the C++ library in Windows to repair this error.
This can be downloaded here for multiple versions of Windows

This site explains that you can indeed use a copy from another OS of the same release.

A lot of people on the Itunes board have had good success following this tutorial on fixing that exact problem, so you might want to give it a try.
(Note that it says "Install Apple Quicktime BEFORE reinstalling Itunes)
Below is the fix from the Apple boards
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Update your .netframe work to version 4 (see other help posts by apple support)
Follow the instructions on this link, basically un-install everything, remove programs that says they are made by apple inc. (using add remove program)
http://www.reimageplus.com/fix-windows-127-error/ (Many thanks to reimageplus.com)
You will also need to check and verify that the following folders have been removed:
- C:\Program Files\Bonjour
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
- C:\Program Files\iTunes
- C:\Program Files\iPod
- C:\Program Files\QuickTime
- C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime
- C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR
dont forget to remove icloud alsoyou dont need to delete your itune music library though If any of these folders still exist, delete them along with their contents. (if you cant delete them, right click and go to properties and then security and change the control of the fold to you)do this for files under program files and program file (x86) on your computer once you have deleted everything, restart your computer. Then I repaired my registry using a registry repair program.
Important:- instead of installing itunes I installed quick time, which installs apple application support (this is the corrupt file which is causing all the issues) i then installed itunes and it all worked fine, should take no longer than half hour to fix
hope this helps
