IF i May ASK what your thoughts are on the holley 8-81670 I just ordered it hope i have not made an mistake.

If it were mine, I'd tear it down & clean everything making sure there are no aluminum chips, etc. I trust no companies "quality control" anymore. I usually switch to non stick bowl & block gaskets as well. That carb may come with them already. If you do tear down, take care to tighten screws evenly & not overtighten.

It won't have the grunt of the 3310,, but you should get better mileage,, depending on your right foot...

I figured by the title of this thread that it was you SSssssnake....

If it is a vacuum secondary, I would recommend buying the secondary spring kit and install the lighter yellow spring for the vacuum secondaries. This will let it open sooner and be fully open by 6000 RPM. The lighter yellow spring is the shorter one. There are two yellow springs in the kit, and the longer one is just one step behind the short yellow one.

QC it, wish I did that off the bat with my Demon before I threw it onto Ebay. would shred every BG/Holley inlet valve O-ring on contact. Trick I learned about a Holley, dont mess with it, out of box is usually good for 90% of users.

I have a 350 hp 390 TQ 350 sbc that was dynoed with an EDDY carb, was a mess right out of the box. went through it 3-4 times and said enough, its in a box under the bench. I ordered a 670 avenger, bolted it on set the idle mixture choke etc. Never looked back. If anything, its 2 jet sizes too fat out of the box for my application. Will adjust that this summer. Best carb for thebuck. I went elec choke and vac secondaires.

You know me dont you KK,i all ready have the little yellow spring waiting, also that cab has 65 front jets i think it will be to lean so i have 68 to put in it.

If you tune it so you can feel the secondaries open, you have put too light a spring in it. If you can feel the transition, the car will be slower than if it has a smooth transition into the secondary side.

Glad to here it scores well.:burnout:

That is what is goin' on ours...I had heard that "don't mess with it, out of box is usually good for 90% of users" I like that.

We ran into two types of MX'ers when we raced. Ones like us that once we had the setup, we left things alone and the others who were constantly screwing around with the carbs. Our bikes always worked strongly and consistently. The only thing I did..and we were laughed at for this... was after the practice, no matter how much time was on the engine since the last race, I would put in a new sparkie. We never fouled out at a start.

My recommendation would be to try it out just as it is out of the box. I would not take it apart and change anything. Maybe I got blue eyes, but I actually believe that when I buy something I get it as described. As you seen from my own thread I have just installed the same carb, not plugging Holley here. I hope to get it as described from any manufacture, or private add.
I had to make it a little richer on the idle mixture screws to get it to idle as I want though.

I hope you will be happy with It Snake!

That is what I also look forward to, being able to try it out on a dry road. It's still bloody winter here.

That makes sense.

I used to work with an engineer that used to work for Holley. He took me aside one day at work and gave me some "tips" on how to make them run better. The secondary spring was one of his recommendations. He didn't tell me what color to run, but told me how to tune it in.

He also said that the Annular Discharge Boosters were very good.

Just did some reading on that 670 and saw a video thay have a big time problim with off idle bog anyone care to add,i am thinking of of anouther carb.Help.I just cant make of my mind nowadays lol.

The 770 street avenger I have on the 340 in my Duster was very close out of the box. Close enough that I'm still running it that way. No bogs or hesitations. I still have a little fine tuning to do, but I'm waiting for my wideband a/f gauge for that.

Snake, make a choice and give it a chance. :banghead:

Get the new carb, give it a try. If you don't like the way it runs, post up for tune up tips. Try to make it work first, before you second guess yourself and keep changing directions.

Like in the first Karate Kid. "You must stick with your decision. If you change your mind in middle of the street.... You get squashed like grape...."

Give the new carb a chance. If it doesn't work out, you can always change it again later. Don't always be afraid of change, sometimes change is good.

If you don't try something new, how is it going to run any better? Don't change your mind until you've had a chance to try it. What if that was the fix and you missed it?

Have patience Grasshopper.... :-D
