Life's most embarrassing car moments

Different D50 (not my 84 4x4), it was a 2WD with a Budget Build 318 in it.

When I first put the lil 2WD tire burner together, I had a 727 in it (later swapped in an A833), and had 3.90 gears with a Limited Slip, and I used a Ratchet Shifter that I found in a chevy at the junkyard...in hindsight, the shifter was probably why that car had been put in the junkyard. :D

At the time I had a Quadrajunk carb on the 318, and most of the time it didn't want to idle when sitting at redlights, so I'd row it up into Neutral before stopping.

Coming down over a hill with a redlight at the bottom, I start giving it some brake, the light hasn't changed, so I slap the shifter up into "Neutral" while moving...

Raaaauuut-raaaauuut-raaauuut.... I hear the tires squealing as they start spinning in the opposite direction  :prayer:

The Lockout on the Ratchet Shifter had jammed and I overthrew neutral and grabbed reverse at about 15mph.

I promptly swapped a Thermoquad on the 318 and shoved an A833 with a Hurst Comp Plus Shifter into the truck and it stayed in the truck until I tore it apart.

Did I mention the 727 that grabbed reverse is still in use to this day? It came out of a 70's Van, then got installed in the 2WD D50. Then I tore it down to beef it up (no damage inside) and ran it behind the 340 in my '74 Duster, then I tore it down again and converted it to 4WD and it lives in my '84 4x4 D50 now
