I did decide to go with the Dynomax Welded Ultra Flo mufflers in the 3" size. I bought a Magnaflow X pipe kit and installed it myself. I switched to Stainless Steel MIG wire and got to work on it. I don't have a car lift, just jackstands. I test fitted and cut stuff until it all fit together, then tack welded it all. I pulled it out and welded it away from the car then reinstalled it as a unit.
What a huge difference. The car idles much quieter now, to the point where i can actually hear the engine idle along with the lope of the cam and the tink tink of the headers. On the road it is quieter at all points. Cruising at 60, the interior noise has been reduced a bunch. That will please the wife for next weeks trip to LA for the Spring Fling. The sound when revving or at WOT is much different. I like it. I'm happy to learn that a car didn't have to be loud to sound great.
