it's worse than I thought

Dont cry yet. check the exhaust gasket. I bought rod bearings, a new piston and and a set of $3 exhaust gaskets for a 'bad' piston swap in my Mazda pick up. I was sure it was a rod knock, piston skirt or pin issue. turns out it was only the exhaust gasket that was bad! Sure sounded like a knock from hell to me.

A young friend of mine was very upset one day when I stopped by. Seems he was out hammerin' on his 93 Mustang Cobra that he bought new (Supercharger added later) and when he got home, it sounded like there was a bad knock. I had him start it up and by feeling around the head to header gasket area (while it was still cold) I found the leak. Didn't even have to take the header all the way off, just loosened it enough to slip out the old gasket and inserted the new.

Hey man, don't leave the site.
