All Mopar gear reduction starters "should" interchange. Now some of the original "wound field" motors WERE heavier or lighter "duty" but they would bolt up and crank the engine

Maybe you got a mis--boxed part? If it fits a 90's Dakota SB then it should fit any Mopar that ever used a gear reduction starter.

WITH the exception that a few of these evidently hit the block of some engines. Some can be "clocked" motor housing to drive housing, etc. and some are 'cause of the terminal adapter on the starter
