Hello guys,

I am looking at removing the gas tank from a 67 barracuda slant six to install a new one along with the a new 5/16 sending unit. My question is how do I get to the bolts that hold the gas tube on? They seem to be hard to get to under the rear trunk panel for lack of better terms. I plan on using the following from amazon...I have a gift card to use up.

Spectra Premium CR11B Fuel Tank for Dodge/Plymouth,
Spectra Premium FG69A Sending Unit for Dodge/Plymouth

Will these parts get the job done. I know i need a new grounding strap. Probably why my gas gauge doesn't work. Thanks for the assistance...and while I'm at it i will order a new factory manual because the Haynes manual doesn't cover the 67' barracuda tank removal part.

I just pulled my tank and replaced it with a fuel cell 2 years ago. If I recall correctly there are only a few bolts holding the tube on, behind the gas cap. Then the tube just pulls out of the tank (after removing the dust cover thingy from the floor of the trunk, which is also bolted down).

I have never needed to remove the filler tube. I walk the tank onto the filler tube first then set it against the floor pan. I have done this alone with one functional arm. The parts listed are correct. I would also replace the filler tube grommet where it goes into the tank.
Detroit Muscle Technologies "DMT" is one of our sponsor vendors and Jim and his wife Loretta are great to deal with. You can call him for the grommet or use the link below.

drain tank or at least make sure it is low on fuel
disconnect the fuel line and sending unit feed wire.
There is only one strap used in 67 to hold the tank - remove the nut.
remove the tank might have to rock it to walk off filler tube.

install new sender in tank, use screw driver or brass drift etc. with hammer to knock the ring off. reverse to re-install.
install new grommet on tank
reverse tank removal to re-install.

These cars are notorious for bad fuel gauges. If the oil and temp gauges still work then you're probably in luck as they are fed from the fuel gauges internal voltage limiter.

The 67 service manual has a 30-ish page supplement for barracuda. The individual pages for barracuda can be viewed/downloaded here.

I used a 8 foot long piece of 4X4 post between the tank and leaf spring to pry to tank down and off of the filler tube that was still attached at the fill door.
This method might bend the quarter skin of a new car.
The tube doesn't and shouldn't fit through the rubber seal easily.

Thanks for the support guys. I feel more confident now tackling this job. My temp gauge, and oil pressure still work so that's a good sign. Hopefully, it is just the ground strap problem.

Update: Tank is out and nasty I see why my fuel gauge isn't working there's no float and its not in the tank so i guess 50 yrs of gas ate it.
