havn't painted in 20 yrs. I 've been told I have problem with the isocynanides in the paint. going to g=have to do some of this myself. can't afford fresh air system. lookin for info as to the best respirator to use. self etch epoxy, 2k primer, single stage urethane or maybe 2k ?????. it will be pretty done pretty well open air shed.

Mine is made by 3m it works great. Bought it at car quest for 36.00. Just checked google and there is some on there for under 25.00. They have replaceable cartridges.

In my opinion, your days of spraying without a fresh air system and being fully covered (shoot suit and gloves) are over. If you are now sensitized to Isocyanates you can die from exposure.

sensitivity to the isocynanates is what paint guy said. it makes me feel like I run a fever but have no fever. I understand there are better respitators than others. 1968 fformulas340 you are right, I should have full suit air supply or forget it. back 40 years ago, ( always been a horseman), I would buy a used horse trailer, have it blasted and paint it with alkalid enamel and sell it. that paid for the other horse related things I needed. then I had one I used acrylic emamel with hardner. next day the effects hit. had problems with epoxy, paints, base/clear system. I can do all the metal repair, filler work, I should just find someone that will shoot it and I can spray it where I can afford the labor. I can't afford to pay some shop a stupid price to shoot it.
i'm at age I guess where its easy to get "down". I look at my life and see I have so much to be thankful for. so many have so many problems ... I can't bring myself to "vent" my frustrations, depressions, funk or whatever we call it!???

3M full face respirator works awesome.

Check ebay for a supplied air respirator. New ones go for about 450 for the hobbyist. Used ones, when they come up, sell for about 375-400. Consider it a rental, buy a new one, use it and sell it and you might be out 75-100 but you'll feel much better. I bought one with that intent, but I liked it so much I decided to keep it. While painting in my masked off garage, I had ZERO paint odors in my hood.

maybe someone will offer a " reasonable" price for my 72 duster. and would invest in the full air setup. I don't love all the welding, sanding, but I do enjoy shootin some paint on there. no I won't have a paint booth! and yes there will be some dirt in it i'm sure. but them again I will drive the imperfect thing.... I have 3 cars that will need paint, and even with someone shootin them for me at a fair price, with cost of materials alone, its an investment for me. ( must be why my ma told me I was a " pore-***"!???) LOL
I hate to sell off my little collection....
