Making a Slant 6 look, and sound cool
You can paint almost the whole thing, literally everything except for the exhaust manifold. I actually tried to do the exhaust manifold with some high temp manifold paint and baked it and everything and it still peeled off. Either way, thanks Abodybomber for the mention. I don't like to leave my slant alone.
I just did these accel wires too as a nice little touch once wire 5 seperated, and I figured I might as well build my own since I'd never done it before. It was kind of fun, and I think the longer runs lets it look better than the stock rat nest.

IT was all done with 1shot, some heavy duty purple power degreaser and a steam cleaner, a steady hand, and several 1" brushes. It has all lasted longer than a year without fading, deteriorating, or coming off.
Now your issue with sounding cool - I bought a glasspack, and coupled with the stock exhaust it was still quiet - like too quiet, so for a total of $109 on ebay, I bought this:

It's 2" and couples well with the stock exhaust. I had it welded in for $80 and they even added a curve to the end of it till I want to go back and pipe it out to the side of the car.

It's wired up into a hole I drilled under the door sill plate, and up to the dash with a 3 pole switch, open - closed - off. When it's closed it sounds normal, and then when open it sounds like an angry demon wasp from hell. It definitly does not sound like a v-8, but the heads will turn, and you will have to turn up the radio to hear your music. IT also doubles a horn because people WILL MOVE when you have it open. So you can cruise on the freeway without droning yourself to death too.
