Mine don't look so hot so I just started thinking, would they look good painted black? My car is red so I'm not sure if that would just look god awful. If anyone has done this please post pics, I can only find one online and it's baby blue with matching blue bumper

I painted mine with a textered gray metallic paint. Was way cheaper then rechrome.

If you want to know if you like the look before jumping head first I to paint you can try plastidip. If you don't like your bombers black just peel it off.

That is a great suggestion!
My son use plasti-dip on his chrome rims and it turned out great. The cans were a little pricey, but a whole lot cheaper than re-chroming.

I did them with rattle can, I think it was dupicolor graphite textured. Use to be like 4 something a can, just bought it again few weeks ago and was 9 but a few good coats on both bumpers with one can. I did them in like 06-07 and just this spring had to touch them up. It held up really good.

Thanks for the link, I may have to try it out. Worst car I can strip it of and the Chrome should be fine still I would imagine

They hang guys in pa for painting bumpers on classic cars, even if your just passing through so be careful.

I don't normally like the black bumpers, but another member PSUKEV has built a 69 resto-mod that looks amazing. PM him and he'll probably send you current pics. He used the black Plasti-Dip. I recently did an old rusted bumper on mine with Plasti-Dip to see what it would look like. I don't like it on mine. I'm going to try a metallic silver (Massey Ferguson) and a body color (Metallic Maroon) to see how they look.

This is Kevin's car a while back.

Funny because a few years later a factory plastic covering on a Barracuda bumper is highly desirable. I think they can look great and they can look wrong. I did "dip" the bumpers and chrome trim on a black c3500 Chevy and it looked pretty sweet. The plastidip holds up better then regular paint on chrome and yet can also be easily removed. Now comes in many colors including metallic.

If you cant afford new bumpers I think your red cuda would look sweet with painted bumpers. O & by the way the PA. guys think a mopar w/ painted bumpers I better than a chevvvvy LOL

I never liked it either. Many times I had found the perfect car only to find out the owner had painted the bumpers body color. Deal breaker.

It's funny, cause it seems that cars that have the bumpers tucked in close look good with painted bumpers, while the bumpers that stick out - not so good. I think it also depends on body color. Here are some pics that I have collected that look awesome to me. Some of these may belong to FABO members.

I like it
Not a numbers matching car
If it were, different story

:burnout:

I think it depends on the color and the car. Some color/car combos look really good. The picture Dfr360cuda posted looks awesome.

If you can polish the chrome, make them look pretty decent, I say do that. I think decent chrome looks better than a painted bumper personally.
