do hemi heads fit other blocks?

When the Stage V conversion heads first came out in the 80's they required extensive modifications to the block. Reliefs for the exhaust pushrods had to be machined into the lifter valley of the block and channel stock welded in since the reliefs went all the way through to the water jacket. The top row of head bolts are recessed head Allen bolts that go through the floor of the intake port. Things have changed since they first came out. The Stage V conversion heads have reworked rocker shaft stands and rockers that moved the exhaust pushrods inboard towards the lifter valley and they no longer require the relief machining to clear the pushrod. The rocker stands and rockers are specific to the conversions heads and have to be used with the conversion heads. The top row head bolt still goes through the floor of the intake port but now the conversion heads also accept stock 16 bolt Hemi intake manifolds and stock exhaust manifolds too! They aint cheap. By the time you rebuilt your 440 with these heads I would guess that you would probably be within a couple grand or so of what a base 426 crate motor would cost you. But I still wouldn't mind trying if I had the $$$
