Dyno run/ missing out maybe? Low hp/tq

ScampChamp, Nice to see another BB A Body and I agree with Rick, about 225 HP is what would be expected on a chassis dyno for what you are describing and with the DA/Heat. (3,000 DA)

Here are the parts described, just trying to get my mind around this:

Convertor: 2800

Camshaft: 2,000 to 6,000 -

Assumption - This is installed straight up - no degreeing

Carburetor: 750 VS

Ignition: Assumption Mopar Electronic

383 - Assumption low compression rebuild (8.5 to 9) with 346 heads (open chamber)

To me and not knowing the gears, your setup in nice and balanced for street cruising and a bit of performance. Should be fun to drive daily.

Please note, I am not a pro, I am simply imparting what I have learned on my BB Dart (440) - there are many schools of thought and people who are much better versed. and I am I am going by the assumption your knowledge level is on the baseline where I started, so if you are more advanced, please take this thread as me having coffee and talking in the wind (or a blog) and disregard. Sometimes typing helps me learn.

My thoughts - First, Mopar electronic ignition has some quirks, so understand them and learn yours. Orange box is said to advance and retard at different RPM's. Distributors have lights springs. This is a great system though, just need to understand it, this took me a bit.

Timing - I like all in at about 2,500 to 2,800 with this ignition setup with 37* as a start. Low compression motor may like more. I set my timing at 2800 with vacuum plugged @ 37*. Start-up and operations below 2800 may be effected, so you need to balance this.

Fuel - Fuel pressure - assumption is your running a stock pump. Once your timing is set, make sure your bowls are not running out at WOT. I like my fuel pressure at 5.5 through operations.

Also - Fuel bowl heat - I like a spacer between carburetor and manifold, but again hood clearance and all the others items need to balance this. Or even a heat shield.

What temperature do you cruise at?
When you get into it, does your temperature go up and you have a problem cooling?

These are signs of lean, retarded timing etc.

What is the size of your air cleaner?

Hope this helps, please keep posting and good luck
